What Are Hashtags?
You might recognize a hashtag as a word or phrase preceded by the pound symbol. On social media, it acts as a ‘tag’ or way for the algorithm to categorize that piece of content. Hashtags help make content discoverable in on-platform searches and, reach more people.
How Do Hashtags Impact The Algorithm?
Including hashtags in your posts means taking part in a conversation and increasing engagement with your audience. Most importantly, it makes your posts visible in that conversation. The algorithm promotes accounts that are utilizing relevant tools, and gaining traction through likes, shares, comments, and new followers.
Users can follow hashtags that they are interested in like #puppies #Kitties, #dogs or #rescuemutt. When they are looking at their own feed, your content may be showcased because they follow a hashtag that you used in your post.
Where To Put Hashtags
Instagram: On Instagram, it’s best to place them at the very bottom of the copy for your post, or as the first comment on the post.
Twitter: Your best bet is to place hashtags at the end of your copy.
TikTok: TikTok typically supports you using 1-3 hashtags. We recommend incorporating one trending hashtag and the others as relevant to your content.
