HEAD: High Temps and Hot Pets
No doubt about it, this has already been a sizzler of a summer in [CITY/STATE]. It’s important to remember that as hot as it is for us, it’s even hotter for our pets. Animals often struggle to keep cool because they don’t process heat as effectively as we do.
During these hot days, make sure to exercise your pet in the cooler morning and evening hours, provide plenty of cool, fresh water and shade, and never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle, not even for a few minutes.
Also, know the warning signs of heat stroke and exhaustion. They include:
- Anxiousness
- Excessive panting
- Restlessness
- Excessive drooling
- Unsteadiness
- Abnormal gum and tongue color
