Hint: Probably more than you think.
So Instagram recommends three to five hashtags per post, but the truth is that’s just the bare minimum if your #goals are engagement and reach. After reviewing more over 18 million feed posts, the research shows that the more hashtags on a post, the better the results. IG wants to be able to accurately categorize and recommend your posts in content streams, so the actual sweet spot is more like 20 – 30 hashtags per post (you can check out the full study findings here).
Yeah, we know—that’s a lot. Here are five factors to keep in mind when trying to up your hashtag game that will help you reach that mark:
1. Location #mtpleasantsc #southcarolina #carolinapets #mtpleasantpets
2. Branded to your business #pleasantpetcare
3. Industry #veterinarian #veterinarymedicine #vetswhocare #petdoctor #southcarolinavet #veterinariansofinstagram #vettechsofinstagram
4. Community #Petparents #spayandneuter #FidoFriday
5. Descriptive #cutepets #cutepetclub #cats of Instagram #dogsofinstagram #dogs #kittens #puppies #rescuepets
Additional tips: To save time, you can keep a note in the Notes App of your phone containing your preferred hashtags to paste into captions. To avoid having all of the hashtags appear with your caption, there are several ways you can add spaces between your caption and the hashtags.
